An architecture with a bold character, in which metallic surfaces, expansive glazing and natural materials interact with an interior design that weaves together icons of contemporary design, modernist influences and details with a personal touch.

A interplay of clean-lined volumes, warm-toned metallic surfaces and expansive glazing defines the architectural identity of this private residence in Sydney, Australia. A project that interprets the language of contemporary architecture through essential geometries and a constant relationship with the landscape.

Externally, the copper-hued metallic cladding lends the building a sculptural character. The large vertical surfaces, punctuated by slender horizontal joints, interact with the dark cylindrical elements that characterise one of the villa’s façades, creating an interesting contrast between orthogonal geometries and curved forms.

The composition alternates between compact volumes and transparent surfaces, solids and voids, opacity and reflections. The generous roof overhangs emphasise the architecture’s horizontal extension, whilst the floor-to-ceiling windows establish a direct relationship between the interior spaces and the garden.

The landscape is not merely a backdrop, but plays a part in defining the spaces. Trees, lawns and footpaths flank the residence, softening the rigour of the built geometries and introducing a natural, domestic dimension.

Contemporary geometries, textural qualities and the culture of living

One of the most interesting features of the interiors lies in their ability to bring together furnishings of different styles within a coherent whole.

In a second living area, two black leather sofas with capitonné upholstery evoke the vocabulary of modernist design. Their rigorous proportions and metal frame complement a coffee table with a wooden top and a large room-dividing bookcase in natural wood.

The bookcase is one of the most significant elements of the interior layout: an open-plan structure that separates without obstructing, defining functional areas whilst preserving visual continuity between the spaces.

The bookcase alternates between open shelves and closed compartments, accommodating books, objects and small decorative items. More than just a storage solution, it becomes an architectural feature capable of shaping the relationships between the rooms.

The choice to use furniture with distinctive lines, authentic materials and understated finishes conveys a vision of interior design that does not chase trends, but seeks a balance designed to endure.

Villa Sydney embodies a vision of contemporary living in which architecture, interior design and landscaping all contribute to the creation of a shared identity.

The quality of the spaces stems from the balance between different elements: the precision of the geometry and the warmth of the materials, design icons and personal objects, the transparency of the glazed surfaces and the intimacy of domestic spaces.

It is precisely this ability to interpret different contexts, sensibilities and ways of life that represents one of the fundamental values of Arredamenti Bertola’s philosophy.

A design ethos that transcends geographical boundaries and regards every home as a unique combination of needs, relationships and opportunities. Because furnishing a home – whether in Sydney, Italy or anywhere else in the world – means, first and foremost, understanding its architecture, respecting its character and helping to create authentic, personal spaces that retain their value over time.
